Sweetness (Духмяність) is an independent Ukrainian short about two young women at opposite-looking poles of the same post-grad economy. Yulia (Юля / «Юлька дівулька» on her channel) performs confidence to the camera — sex questions, “happiness,” metro flirting tips, branding herself as content. Zoya (Зоя) has finished studying and cannot convert a diploma into a job: fake office addresses, “we need experience,” and friends who offer Nova Poshta as a start. Their talk — cafés, selfies, trains, the city — is the drama: vlog performance versus the grind of looking for work. Yulia’s on-camera persona (channel intros, “sex questions,” how to be happy, metro flirting) collides with off-camera talk. The short keeps asking what of the self is content and what is left when the record button is off.
Work, diploma, experience trap
Zoya’s job search is the other plot engine: no experience without a job, no job without experience, wrong addresses, silence on the phone. The university credential does not open the “normal job” she wants.
Friendship under unequal capital
One woman has audience and lifestyle polish; the other has applications and humiliation. Advice (barista, shop, Nova Poshta) lands as care and as class friction — “why don’t you take those good jobs yourself?”
City of opportunities / city of null
Big-city rhetoric (“you can find anything”) meets the feeling of being nobody after a lifetime in the same place. Mobility (train, metro, photos by the river) is real; arrival into a stable life is not guaranteed.
Gendered speech and body image
Vlog topics — shame during sex, happiness in the mirror, how girls behave when they like someone — map a young women’s public internet. Sweetness treats that speech as both commerce and confession.
