Dirty Russian

Грязный русский

Logline

A musician comes home after years abroad chasing a career — the city does not open its arms; old debts stay open, and a forgotten suitcase opens new ones.

Synopsis

Dirty Russian (Грязный русский) is Poberailo’s debut web series (six episodes, Ukraine 2015). Musician Kostet returns to his hometown after two years trying for glory abroad. The homeland does not meet him with open arms: the old band has moved on, an ex is with a new guitarist, and a strange fellow traveller’s abandoned case pulls him into criminal trouble while he drinks, fights for reputation, and tries to reclaim love and music. Co-written with Kostya Chernysh (who plays Kostet); executive producer Anton Frolov; sound Valery Beskorsy. Multi-hyphenate direction, camera, and cut by Poberailo. The title is double: “dirty” as social “losers” outside boutique success who still chase hope — and as authentic, non-theatrical spoken Russian against clean TV language. Kostet first appeared in the City Stories shorts (I’ve Ordered You Some Coffee / It Seems…); the series expands him into a lead. Episodes circulated on Dailymotion / socials; sample public YouTube upload exists for episode material. IMDb tt4471400.

Production

Six-episode online season; grew from a short idea into multi-episode production with a year-long stop after early shoots. Episode streams historically on Dailymotion (e.g. x2fitwy…); one YouTube sample: watch?v=YvDZPMJrkaY (ep. material). Full season re-host on Cloudflare planned. Cast list from release cards: Chernysh, Lavrinenko, Bespalyi, Dvornikov, Letko, and ensemble. Related shorts in the same universe: I’ve Ordered You Some Coffee, It Seems…, Lucy in the Sky with Stars.

Themes

  • Homecoming without welcome

Return from “abroad career” fantasy to a city that kept moving. Unresolved debts — romantic, musical, social — are the plot engine more than a single crime twist.

  • Music vs living wage

Kostet’s arc continues the City Stories question “can you live by rock?” — band politics, bouncer past, and the gap between stage myth and cash.

  • “Dirty” as class and speech

Production notes refuse boutique-success heroes and theatre-clean Russian: losers who still hope, and dialogue that sounds like people, not drama school.

  • The suitcase as plot fuse

A stranger’s abandoned case is the concrete object that turns personal failure into criminal entanglement — noir economy in a small web-series budget.

  • Shared universe (City Stories → series)

Kostet is not invented for episode one: he already walked through coffee-bar and pickup novellas. Dirty Russian is the long-form expansion of a recurring face.

Characters

  • KostetProtagonist

    Kostya Chernysh

Musician back from two years abroad. Tries to rejoin his band, face his ex, and opens a stranger’s case — drinks hard, fights for status, slides into danger. Earlier: bouncer/rock dreamer in “I’ve Ordered You Some Coffee”; cameos in “It Seems…”.

  • The vocalist (band)Supporting

    Alexander Dvornikov

Band-world foil; release notes flag movie-quote play (Terminator, Jarmusch titles) in dialogue — meta texture inside the scene.

  • Ensemble of the citySupporting

Friends, ex-circle, night economy — Lavrinenko, Bespalyi, Letko and others as the social weather Kostet returns into.

Scene map

  • Return / station of the case

Homecoming and the abandoned suitcase — the hinge from travel to trouble.

  • Band room & ex

Attempt to re-enter the group and the love plot; refusal and displacement.

  • Drinking spiral

Kostet drinks until the case becomes a decision — personal collapse before crime plot.

  • Night city / workshop backstage

Locations from release (clubs, workshops, streets) — Kharkiv independent texture.
